The Port of Port of Spain (PPOS) has purchased 2 Konecranes Liftace empty container handlers, 1 Konecranes reach stacker, and 2 Konecranes forklifts for its port terminal located in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. The empty container handlers were delivered in Q3 2022, while the reach stackers and forklift trucks are scheduled to arrive in Q1 2023.

The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) operates a terminal in the city of Port of Spain, which is the capital of the island country Trinidad and Tobago, the largest multi-purpose port on the island and an important Caribbean shipping hub. This key role in regional logistics requires a small fleet of reliable container handling equipment to ensure maximum efficiency throughout 24/7 operations. When looking to update their lift truck fleet, PATT selected Konecranes, with the support of regional dealer Genar Inc., to provide the best equipment and services to meet their requirements.

“As we continue to develop our terminal, the new Konecranes equipment can help us to improve our efficiency and maintain our long-term responsibility to local trade and commerce,” says Robert Ramsubhag, CEO PPOS - a strategic business unit of PATT.

“This is the first time PATT has ordered Konecranes lift trucks, but they’ve been operating a Konecranes HMK 300 E Mobile Harbor Crane for some years,” says Dale Verseput, Regional Director Americas, Lift Trucks, Konecranes. “Our long-term cooperation with PATT and Genar highlights the strong business relationships we cultivate with all our customers and distributors to ensure that our machines continue to provide outstanding performance for many years of reliable service.”

“PATT was very clear in what they wanted: high-quality, durable machines designed to save fuel and boost productivity, and Konecranes could provide exactly that,” says Eric Gentzschein, Director of Genar Inc.

Each of the two empty container handlers is a Konecranes Liftace 5/6 ECC 9, a powerful, durable and safe yard tool that can lift up to 9 tons.

The reach stacker is an SMV 4632 TC6, with a strong, box-type chassis and wide drive axle with a long wheelbase for high stability, safe handling and long-lasting performance. One of the forklifts is an SMV 15-1200 C, a light machine with a short wheelbase to ensure easy maneuverability in the more restricted spaces of the shipyard. The other forklift is an SMV 37-1200 C, with a medium-length wheelbase for mid-range loads of up to 37 tons. Each truck features a spacious, ergonomic OPTIMA cabin with easy-to-use controls and driver comfort, as well as wide windows for excellent lines of sight in all directions. The cabin on the 37-ton forklift has been customized with a lateral sliding feature for extra visibility when handling non-standard containers. This range of lift trucks will give PATT more flexibility in their container handling options.

All 5 vehicles are Smart Connected Lift Trucks. TRUCONNECT® Remote Monitoring follows each truck’s performance through information such as operations and usage data, fleet optimization and container mass. TRUCONNECT® Premium adds tire pressure and shock monitoring to the basic analytics. PATT can easily access all their Konecranes lift truck fleet information in one convenient location online through the yourKONECRANES.com customer portal.
